The slender-waisted bowl originated from China in 14th century and came to Vietnam in Nguyen dynasty (1802 – 1945) via ocean trade. At first the bowl is used by noble, wealthy families.
The bowl has a slim design at the bottom so that dishes can be put neatly right next to it, making the meals or offerings become more eye-catching. Around the bowl are elegant decorating patterns.
With its convenience, many pottery makers started to make this slender-waisted bowl and slowly it became a familiar part in Vietnamese people’s life.
