Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (abbreviated as VAST) is a multi-disciplinary research institute under the Government of Vietnam and established by the Government of Vietnam.
It is responsible for researching in natural sciences field and developing technological sectors in the direction of the Government. The head office is located at 18 Hoàng Quốc Việt street, Cầu Giấy district.
Scientific and technological development is a great policy that the Party and State have extremely focused on. Before 1970, the Party and State raised a policy to establish a national scientific centre; as a result, the Institute of Natural Sciences was established.
During the war against American, a number of research institutions were established such as Institute of Mathematics, Institute of Physics, Institute of Marine Studies. In 1970, these institutes and many other research units were merged into the Centre for Scientific Research under the State Committee for Science and Technology (now known as Ministry of Science and Technology), on May 20, 1975 the Government Council (now called Government) issued the Decree No. 118/CP on establishing Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology on the basis of this centre.
